Softball Earns Doubleheader Split With Queens
Freshman Tiffany Irrera Fires A Shutout As Purple Knights Win Game Two, 3-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman pitcher Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scattered eight hits over a seven innings, as she fired a complete game 3-0 shut over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in the second game of an East Coast Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Queens took game one of the twin bill, 12-4. With the split, Bridgeport is now 7-27 overall and 2-18 in conference play. Queens is now an even 20-20 overall and 9-11 in the ECC.
In game two, junior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) had two hits and two runs batted in, and freshman Kelly Olencki (Milford, Conn.) also contributed two hits and one RBI.
With the win, Irrera raises her season record 4-9.
In the opening game, Olencki hit a solo home run plus had two base knocks, and Katie Caudullo (Fr., Scranton, Pa.) blasted a two-run homer.
The UB softball team is scheduled to be back in action at home on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. when they host NYIT.
