Purple Knights Defeat Nyack And Lose To Philadelphia U. On Day Three In Flordia
Clermont, Fla.-For the third consecutive day on their Spring Break trip to Florida, the University of Bridgeport softball team split two games, as the Purple Knights opened the day with a 4-2 win over Nyack College in eight innings and closed day three in the Sunshine State with an 8-0 loss against Philadelphia University.
With score tied 2-2 entering the top of the eighth, the Purple Knights plated what proved to be the game-winning run when senior Nicole Steiner (Edison, N.J.) tripled to score Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) who had been sacrificed to third base by freshman Karlee Tario (Calgary, Alberta, Canada). Steiner had two hits in Tuesday's first game, as did teammates Katie Caudullo (Fr., Scranton, Pa.) and Taylor McBeth (So., Langley, B.C., Canada)
Katie Caudullo pitched 4.2 srrong innings in her first collegiate start against Nyack, and freshman Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.), who also went 3-for-4 at the plate, earned the win in relief to raise her record to 2-1 on the year.
Against Philadelphia U., Taylor McBeth had the Purple Knights only hit, a double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The UB softball team will take Wednesday off before returning to action in Florida on Thursday when they face UMass-Lowell and St. Leo University.
