Clermont, Fla.-It was an early start to day two of action for the University of Bridgeport softball team in Florida as UB played a pair of morning games. For the second consecutive day, the team split the two contests opening play with a 10-2 win over St. Michael's (Vt.) College in a battle of Purple Knights and closing the day out with a back-and-forth 6-5 loss versus Bentley University.
The Bridgeport bats were smoking against St. Michael's as the team banged out a total of 13 hits. Freshman Katie Caudullo (Scranton, Pa.) helped lead the UB hit parade, as she went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Caudullo also scored one run and had a double against St. Michael's. Senior Tori Tenzyk (Hawthorne, N.Y.) also knocked in three runs in Monday's first game as she went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sophomore Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to start the Monday in fine style.
Freshman pitcher Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went the distance against St. Mike's allowing only three hits to notch her first collegiate win in the circle.
In Monday's second game versus Bentley, junior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) went 2-for-3 with one run batted in.
Freshman Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) was the hard-luck losing pitcher for the Purple Knights against the Falcons, as she pitched a complete game in which she allowed only three earned runs. Shill's record is now 1-1 in the early going of 2011.
On Tuesday, Bridgeport will play games five and six of their 10-game Spring Trip to Florida, as they face Nyack College and Philadelphia University.
