Bridgeport, CT-The University
of Bridgeport softball team posted its first sweep of the 2010
season on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights defeated St.
Thomas Aquinas, 3-1 and 2-0. With the two wins, UB is now 3-37
overall and 3-19 in the East Coast Conference. STAC falls to
7-32 overall and 3-19 in the ECC.
In game one,
Madison
Smith (JR, Seekonk, MA) picked up the win in the
pitcher's circle firing a two-hit complete game in which she struck
out six without allowing a walk.
Sophomore
Katie
McMitchell (Port Coquitlan, B.C. Canada) had two hits
and drove in one run for UB. Seniors
JJ
Edwards (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) and
Melissa Montanaro (Stamford, CT) had the other
Purple Knight RBIs.
In game two, freshman
Alitha
Krolikowski (Bristol, CT) picked up her first win of
the season as a pitcher throwing a four-hit, complete game shut
out.
Bridgeport scored both of its runs in the first inning on a
double steal of home and second base plus an RBI single by JJ
Edwards.
Earlier in the day, STAC won the completion of a suspended
game from April 6, 4-2.
Bridgeport is next in action on Tuesday afternoon at
NYIT.
