Bridgeport Swim Team Wrap Up 2018 Portion Of Season Schedule At ECAC Winter Championship
Purple Knights Return To The Pool On January 12 At Ramapo
East Meadow, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men' and women's swimming team wrapped up the 2018 portion of their season schedule this weekend at the ECAC Winter Championship on Long Island. UB took part in one day of the three-day event, and the men finished in seventh place with 502 points, and the women took fourteenth place with 127.45 points.
The Bridgeport men picked up a pair of individual event wins, as sophomore Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) won the 100 Yard Breaststroke (57.26) with junior Leonard Posa (Zrenjanin, Serbia) taking third in the same event (58.07), and junior Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) captured the top spot in 200 Yard Free (1:39.80) with teammate Klavio Meca (Sr., Tirana, Albania) taking the fifth spot in the same event (1:43.74).
Hren also grabbed second place in the 500 Free (4:34.9) with senior Brian Kelly (Mahwah, N.J.) finishing in seventh place in a time of 4:45.09 in the same event.
Graduate student Nick Semenov (Kiev, Ukraine) took second place in the men's 200 Yard IM (1:55.72), and senior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) swam well taking seventh in the 50 Free (24.38) and sixth in the 100 Butterfly (51.76).
The Bridgeport men also got excellent performance in the relay events by the 200 Free and 400 Medley squads.
The UB women got strong performances from newcomer Mariia Rezhylo (Kiev, Ukraine) who was second in the 100 Butterfly (56.24), and team captain Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) took ninth in the 50 Free (24.38).
Up next, the UB swim teams will be in action on Saturday, January 12, 2019 when the travel to Ramapo for a dual meet scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
