Swim Teams Open 2018-19 Campaigns At Fairfield University Invitational
Men Take Second And Women Finish In Fourth Place On The Day. Men WIn Nine Events And Women Take Seven Total First Places
Fairfield, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2018-19 seasons on Saturday at the Fairfield University Invitational. The UB men took second place out of four teams with 414 points winning nine events, and the Purple Knights women's squad finished fourth with 248 points winning a total of seven events.
Individually on the men's side, three swimmers were double event winners, as junior Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) took first in the 800 Free (8:24.69) and the 400 Free (4:02.51), sophomore Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) won the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.32) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.79) plus classmate Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain) captured the 200 Fly (2:10.92) and the 200 IM (2:12.04).
For the Bridgeport women, senior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) began her final season in the Park City in fine style winning the 200 Free (2:08.84) and the 100 Free (59.65). Newcomer, junior Mariia Rezhylo (Kiev, Ukraine) took first place in the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.68) and the 100 Fly (1:05.69).
Up next, the UB men's and women's swimming teams will be in action at home in the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium on Saturday, October 20 when Stevens Tech comes to Bridgeport.
