Swim Teams Finish Strong At 2018 ECAC Open Championships
NCAA National Meet Is Up Next For Several Purple Knights
Piscataway, N.J.- The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams completed action at 2018 ECAC Open Championship held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey on Sunday and the UB placed seventh out of 21 teams with 230 points; while UB women took fourteenth out of 24 squads with a total of 85 points. The U.S. Naval Academy won both events with a score of 656 on the men's side and 584.5 for women.
For the UB women, senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) took finished in second place in the 1650 Yard Freestyle in a time of 16:40.17, and teammate junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) took thirs place in the 100 Yard Freestyle (51.24).
For the UB men, junior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) put the finishing touches on a fine weekend with a third place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke in a time of 1:46.79, and freshman Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke in a time of 2:00.27.
The Bridgeport men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team took fourth place in a time of 3:02.04.
Up next, the UB swim teams will find which student-athletes are headed to the 2018 NCAA Division II National Meet when competitors are announce early this week.
