Bridgeport Swimmers Shine At 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet
Men Finish In Fifth Place And Women Take Ninth
Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams wrapped competition at 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet taking place at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey on Sunday night. The Bridgeport men finished in fifth place out of 17 teams with 873.5 points, and the UB women took ninth place out of 18 teams with 317 points. Rowan University won both the men's and women's titles totaling 1394.5 points for the men and 1320 points for the women.
Purple Knight swimmers took three individual first places on Sunday, as senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) took first in the women's 1650 Yard Freestyle (16:56.61) and teammate junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) won the women's 100 Yard Freestyle (51.02), plus freshman Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) captured the men's 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:01.55).
The UB men also received fine performances from several swimmers on Sunday, as junior Klavio Meca (Triana, Albania) took second in the 1650 Yard Freestyle (15:41.93) followed by sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia), in third place (15:52.25).
Junior Nick Semenov (Kiev, Ukraine) took fourth place in the 100 Yard Freestyle in a time of 46.51, and Bridgeport had three of the top eight in the men's 200 Yard Butterfly with sophomore Mihovil Bakovic (Split, Croatia) taking fourth place (1:54.12), junior Nicolas Cardenas (Bogota, Columbia) in fifth place (1:55.13) and freshman Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain) in seventh place (1L56.76).
Sophomore Leonard Posa (Zrenjanin, Serbia) finished seventh in the men's 200 Yard Breaststroke in a time of 2:09.81.
The men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team completed the meet's action for the Purple Knights taking second place in a time of 3:02.95.
In the women's 200 Yard Butterfly, sophomore Renata Avendano (San Antonio, Texas) took sixth place in a time of 2:13.09.
Next weekend, the UB swimming teams will be in action at the 2018 ECAC Open Championships.
