UB Swimmers Continue Busy Weekend At NYU
Host Violets Sweep The Purple Knights Who Will Close Out A Busy Weekend Of Action At Connecticut College On Sunday
New York, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams traveled to Manhattan on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet against New York University, and the host Violets swept the visiting Purple Knights winning the women's meet, 169-68, and taking the men's competition, 179-73.
Highlighting the women's meet were first place swims by senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:11.15), and junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) in the 50 Yard Free (24.75). Bonsanti also took first place points in the 200 Yard IM (2:20.65), and she finished second in the 200 Yard Free (1:57.32).
On the men's side, sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) earned first place points in the 200 Yard IM (1:59.51) and took second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:42.51).
Junior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) grabbed second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke (51.68), as did freshman Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain) in the 200 Yard Butterfly (1:57.12) and junior Klavio Meca (Triana, Albania) in the 500 Yard Freestyle (447.15).
Up next, both UB swim teams will close out a busy weekend of dual meet action with their third meet in three days at Connecticut College in New London on Sunday. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
