Purple Knights Hold Their Own Against Strong Division I Competition At The BU Terrier Swimming Invitational
Men Take 5th Place And Women Grab 6th Place In The Three-Day Event
Boston, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams took on some stiff Division competition over the weekend at Boston University Terrier Invitational, as the Purple Knights were the only Division II squad at the competition, and UB took fifth place out of six teams on the men's side with 424.5 points and the Bridgeport women grabbed sixth place out of eight teams with a total of 239.5 points. Army West Point won both the men's and women's events.
The UB men women two events; while the Purple Knight women had one first place finish during the three-day event. Combined, the two Bridgeport squads had a total of six second place finishes.
For the men's team, senior Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) won the 100-yard Butterfly (49.86), and 800-yard free relay team of Matsuyama, Alberto Alemany (Sr., Barcelona, Spain), Nick Semenov (Soph., Kiev, Ukraine) and Ivan Sangines (Sr., Barcelona, Spain) won their event in a time of 6:40.59.
On the women's side, senior Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.66.
Up next, both UB swim teams will travel to the College of New Jersey Invitational that will take from Friday December 2 through Sunday, December 4.
