Swim Teams Open 2015-16 Dual Meet Schedule With Sweep Over St. Rose
Women Win, 123-106, And Men Top Golden Knights, 127-85
Troy, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2015-16 dual meet schedules on the road on Friday night against the College of St. Rose, and both UB teams defeated the host Golden Knights, as the men won, 127-85, and the women came out on top, 123-106. The Purple Knights took first place points in all but five combined swimming events.
Double individual event winners for the Bridgeport men were senior Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) in the 50 Free (21.86) and the 100 Free (46.88), sophomore Brian Kelly (Mahwah, N.J.) in the 200 Free (1:43.99) and the 100 Back (51.61) and junior Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) in the 200 IM (1:59.41) and the 100 Fly (51.81).
On the women's side, sophomore Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) won three events, the 1000 Free (10:39.67) the 500 Free (5:18.39 and the 200 Free (1:59.55), plus sophomore Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) took first in the 50 Free (24.54) and the 100 Back (58,76).
The UB women are back in the pool at home in the Wheeler Recreation Center next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host LIU Post. The Bridgeport men are off until November 20 when the travel to Boston for the BU Terrier Invitational.
