Swim Team Continue To Shine At NCAA Nationals
Men In 8th Place And Women In 26th Heading Into Saturday Night's Finale
Indianapolis, Indiana.-Heading into the final day of the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet, the University of Bridgeport men's swimming team sits in eighth place out of 31 scoring teams with 169.5 points, and the UB women are in 26th place out of 37 scoring teams with 21 points.
On Friday night, junior Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) earned All-America honors in the 100-yard Breaststroke taking fifth place in a time of 53.88. In that same event, senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) took tenth place in a time of 54.25 to earn Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
Two other members of the Purple Knights men's team picked up Honorable Mention All-American honors as sophomore Antonio Nunez (Oviedo, Spain) took tenth in the 200-yard Butterfly (1:49.03) and junior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) grabbed sixteenth in the 500-yard Freestyle ((4:34.83).
In the women's 500-yard Freestyle, freshman Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) finished in ninth place with a time of 4:54.30 to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors, as did the men's 800-yrd Free Relay team who finished in 13th place (6:47.79).
Action concludes on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championship Meet.
