Swim Teams Sweep St. Rose
Men Win, 116-102, And Women Top Golden Knights, 130-98
Bridgeport, Conn.-A trip to Troy, New York proved to be a worthwhile way to spend a Saturday afternoon for the University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams, as the Purple Knights swept the host College of St. Rose Golden Knights in dual meets with the UB women winning, 130-98, and the men topping their hosts, 116-98.The Purple Knights took first place points in all but three swimming events on Saturday afternoon.
Double winners for the Bridgeport women on Saturday were: Alja Tavcar (Sr., Ljubljana, Slovenia) in the 200 Free (1:58.12) and the 500 Free (5:17.20), junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) in the 50 Free (24.71) and the 200 Free (54.50) plus Shannan Bott (So., Hamburg, Germany) in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.38) and the 400 IM (4:44.27).
On the men's side, freshman Brian Kelly (Mahwah, N.J.) took first places in the 200 Free (1:44.090 and the 100 Back (51.33). Senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won the 50 Free (21.18) and turned in the top time as an exhibition swim in the 100 Breaststroke (57.17).
Up next for the UB swim teams is a trip to Kings Point, New York on Saturday, November 22 for the USMMA Invitational.
