Swimmers Wrap Up Season-Opening Weekend In New Jersey
UB Wins 12 Total Events Over The Two Days Of Action
Piscataway, N.J.-After winning four races on Friday evening, the University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their opening weekend of the 2014-15 season on Saturday at the Sonny Werblin Invitational on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey by winning eight more races.. No team scores were kept at the event.
The Bridgeport men opened Saturday by winning the 200-yard Medley Relay in a time of 1:34.04. Brian Kelly, Ivan Capan, Ruben Gimenez and Didac Matsuyama made up Saturday's 200 Medley Relay team.
The team of Vladislav Paskas, Matsuyama, Capan and Gimenez also took the top spot in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:24.78.
Bridgeport male swimmers went one-two in the 100-yard Freestyle as senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won the event in a time of 46.69 and classmate Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) was second at 47/02.
The UB men took first through fourth places in the 100-yard Butterfly led by Gimenez (52.14). Ivan Capan was second at 52.34, sophomore Diego Marques (Marilia, Brazil) was third (52.46) and senior Igor Vulesevic (Zrenjanin, Serbia) grabbed fourth in a time of 55.21.
Sophomore Antonio Nunez (Oviedo, Spain) took first in the 200-yard IM in a time of 4:11.73.
In the men's 200-yard Freestyle, Bridgeport took the top three place led by Didac Matsuyama in a time of 1:42.28. Ruben Gimenez was second in a time of 1:45.52, and junior Alberto Alemany (Barcelona, Spain) was third with a time of 1:45.84.
Didac Matsuyama also took first place in the men's 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 52.85, and Antonio Nunez was second in the race at 54.93
On the women's side, junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.75.
The UB women are back in the pool next Friday at LIU Post for a meet that will begin at 6:00 p.m. The UB men return to the pool on Saturday, November 1st at the College of St. Rose.
