Bridgeport Men Take Fifth Place; Women Finish Eighth In Team Standings At 2014 NCAA Division Swimming Nationals
Junior Ruben Gimenez Captures Second NCAA Title Of Meet Winning Men's 100-Yard Freestyle
Geneva, Ohio-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams wrapped a stellar 204 NCAA Division II Men's & Women's National Championship Swimming & Diving Meet on Saturday night, as UB men finished in fifth place as a team with 258.5 points and the Purple Knight women grabbed eight place with 178 points. Drury University won both the men's (569.5 points) and women's (486 points) meets.
UB junior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won his second NCAA individual tile of the 2014 championship on Saturday taking first place in the men's 100-Yard Freestyle in a time of 43.49. Ruben won the 100-Yard Breaststroke on Friday.
Teammate Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) earned All-American honors in the 100-Yard Free on Saturday also taking seventh place in a time of 44.46, and junior Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) took twelfth place in the same event for Honorable Mention All-American honors.
On the women's side, sophomore Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) took sixth place in the 100-Yard Freestyle in a time of 50.56, and junior Adeline Martin (Antibes, France) also earned All-American honors on Saturday with a sixth place finish in the 200-Yard Breasstroke.
Back on the men's side, senior Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakhstan) earned All-American accolades with a seventh place finish in the 200-Yard Breaststroke in a time of 1:56.38.
The Purple Knights final All-American swim of the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's & Women's National Championship Swimming & Diving Meet came in the women's 400-yard Freestyle Relay as the team of Armony Dumur (Amiens, France), Martin, junior Alina Sotnikova Riga, Latvia) and Shepel took seventh place in a time of 3:23.91.
