Swim Teams Continue To Excel At 2014 NCAA Nationals
Men In Sixth Place And Women in Seventh After Two Days Of Four-Day Event
Geneva, Ohio-More records fell and more All-American honors were garnered on Thursday night, as the University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams continue to make their presence felt on day two of the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's & Women's National Championship Swimming & Diving Meet being held in Geneva, Ohio just outside of Cleveland. The Purple Knights earned All-American accolades in four more events and grabbed Honorable Mention All-American honors two more, as the UB men sit in sixth place as team with 1205.5 points and the women are in seventh place with 95 points. Drury leads both the men's and women's standings with 276.5 points on the men's side and 246 points for the women.
In individual events, Adeline Martin (Jr. Antibes, France) took fifth place in the women's 400-yard Individual Medley in an All-American time for the second consecutive evening and school record clocking of 4:19.57.
Senior Armony Dumur (Amiens, France) shattered the school record and topped the previous NCAA Division II record time in the women's 100-yard Butterfly gliding through the water in a swift time of 53.51.
The Bridgeport mem's relay teams continued to excel earning All-American honors with a second place finish in the 200-yard Free and a third place finish in the 400-yard Medley.
The 200-yard Free Relay team of senior Oscar Periero (Arzua, Spain), senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain), sophomore Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) and junior Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) turned in a time of 1:19.38
The 400-Medley Relay team of Periero, senior Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakhstan), sophomore Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) and Gimenez turned in a school record time of 3:12.41.
Matsuyama earned Honorable Mention All-American honors with an eleventh place finish in the men's 200-yard Freestyle in a school record time of 1:38.10, and the women's 200-yard Freestyle Relay team also took Honorable Mention All-American honors with a thirteenth place finish.
