Bridgeport Swimming Wins 18 Events At USMMA Invitational
Women Take 10 First Places And Men Win Eight Events
Kings Point, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams turned in an a total of 18 event wins on Saturday afternoon at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Invitational . The UB women won a total of 10 events, and the men took eight first places on the day as no team scores were kept at the invitational.
Junior Adeline Martin (Antibes, France) won three events for the women taking first place in the 200 IN (2:08.82), the 100 Back (1:07.24) and the 200 Free (1:54.77).
Senior Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) led the UB men with two individual event wins taking home the 100 Butterfly (50.37) and the 100 Free (46.07).
Other individual event winners for the Bridgeport women were junior Mona Hagelstein (Hamburg, Germany) won the 100 Free (55.34), junior Alina Sotnikova (Riga, Latvia) won the 100 Back (1:04.74), freshman Shannan Bott (Hamburg, Germany) took home the 200 Butterfly (2:19.03), sophomore Elena Shchekleina (Yekaterinburg, Russia) won the 50 Free (25.31) and sophomore Jaimy Lee Taskin (Noordwijkerhout, Holland) won the 200 back (2:12.99).
On the men's side, junior Matheus Lima (Santos, Brazil) grabbed the 100 Back (53,82), senior Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakhstan) won the 100 Breaststroke (58.15), senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) took first in the 50 Free (21.20) and junior Ivan Sangines (Barcleona, Spain) won the 200 Free (1:43.42).
Both the Bridgeport men and women won the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays.
Up next for both teams is a trip to the YCNJ Invitational on December 6-7-8.
