Men's Swimming Finishes Eighth As A Team At 2013 NCAA Division II Nationals
400 Yard Relay Team Excels On Final Day Of Meet
Birmingham, Alabama-The University of Bridgeport men's swimming team, under the direction of head coach Brad Flood, wrapped up a top-notch performance at the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet on Saturday night with an eighth place finish out of 29 scoring teams. UB amassed a total of 227 points. Drury College won the event with a total of 546.
In perhaps the most exciting event of the entire four-day meet, the Purple Knights 400 Yard Free Relay Team of Ruben Gimenez (Jr., Burgos, Spain), Krzysztof Wilk (Grad. Student, Krakow, Poland), Vladislav Paskas (So., Zrenjanin, Serbia) and Oscar Pereiro (Jr. Arzua, Spain) set an NCAA Division II National Record of 2:56.39 in the prelims and surpassed that mark with a time of 2:55.54 in the evening finals but finished second in the event as the team from national champion Drury College swam a time of 2:55.54 to take first place.
In individual events on Saturday, UB continued to add to its impressive All-American total with Ruben Gimenez taking third place in the 100 Yard Freestyle (43.71), and senior Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakhstan) finishing sixth in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (1:58.52).
