Swim Teams Dominate Home Dual Meet Versus Pace University
Men Post 121-62 Victory And Women Top Setters, 103-58
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams returned to the familiar surroundings of the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium on Sunday afternoon for a dual meet versus Pace University, and the Purple Knights dominated the Setters turning in first place swims in all 22 events including the six events that UB swam as exhibitions. In team scoring, the Bridgeport men defeated Pace, 121-62, and the UB women topped the Setters, 103-58.
Individually on the men's side, four Purple Knights turned in first place times in two events on Sunday. Sophomore Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) took first place in the 200 Meter Free (1:55.71) and the 100 Meter Free (52.72). Senior Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakhstan ) won the 200 Meter IM (2:10.44) and the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:04.54). Graduate student Davide Sitti (Castelnuovo Ramgone, Italy) won the 800 Meter Free (8:34.84), and he turned in a first place time of 4:07.59 in the 400 Meter Free which he swam as an exhibition. Junior Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) took the top spot in the 50 Meter Free (23.21), and he had the top time in the 100 Meter Back (54.52) which he swam as an exhibition. Senior Artur Pietrzak (Lezno, Poland) took first place in the 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 58.05.
Individually for the Bridgeport women, four swimmers also had first place times in two events on Sunday. Freshman Claudia Esteban (Zaragoza, Spain) won both the 800 Meter Free (9:47.93) and the 400 Meter Free (4:43.16). Sophomore Alina Sotnikova (Riga, Latvia) took first place in the 50 Meter Free (27.78) plus the 100 Meter Free (1:00.27). Freshman Sara Savovic (Belgrade, Serbia) won the 200 Meter Free (2:10.66) and turned in a first place time of1:09.02 in the 100 Meter Back which she swam as an exhibition. Sophomore Ilka Oberle (Schwanau, Germany) grabbed first place in the 100 Meter Butterfly (1:10.01) and had a first place time of 1:18.80 in the 100 Meter Breaststroke which she swam as an exhibition. Senior Anna Krasnowska (Kedzierzyn-Kozie, Poland) won the 200 Meter IM with a time of 2:31.87.
The Bridgeport swim teams will continue in action at the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium this week as they compete in the Second Annual Purple and White Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m., and then Manhattan College comes to the Park City on Monday, January 21 for a 1:00 p.m. meet that postponed due to Hurricane Sandy in early November.
