Men's Swimming Takes Second Place And UB Women Finish Third At This Weekend's TCNJ Invitational
Purple Knights Return To The Water At Home This Saturday (December 8) Against Post University AT 1:00 p.m.
Ewing, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming squads returned to action after the Thanksgiving Break at the competitive College of New Jersey Invitational in the Garden State. Action took place from Friday, November 30 through Sunday, December 1, and the UB men took second out of five teams, and the Bridgeport women finished third out of six teams. The Purple Knight men amassed 857 points, winning 11 of 40 events contested over the weekend, to finish behind the host Lions who took first place with a total of 1319 points. The UB women scored 521 points over the three days to finish behind first place TCNJ (985.5 points) and second place LIU Post (932.5 points).
Junior Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) won three individual events over the weekend taking first places in the 100-yard Butterfly (50.29), the 100-yard Backstroke (51.09) and the 100-yard Freestyle (45.61).
Pereiro's classmate and fellow Spaniard Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won two individual events at the TCNJ Invitational capturing the 100-yard IM (1:52.37) and the 100-yard Breaststroke (55.17).
Sophomore Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) also was a double individual event winner for the UB men over the weekend taking first places in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:40.99) and the 200-yard Butterfly (1:55.59).
Sophomores Igor Vulesevic (Zrenjanin, Serbia) in the 400-yard IM (4:12.41) and Matheus Lima (Santos, Brazil) in the 200-yard Backstroke (1:50.58) rounded out the individual event winners for the Bridgeport men at this year's TCNJ Invitational.
The UB men also took the top spot in two relays winning the 400-yard Medley (Pereiro, Gimemez, Paskas and Krzysztof Wilk) in a time of 3:21.41, and the 200-yard Medley (Pereiro, Gimemez, Eddie Phillips and Wilk) in a time of 1:31.54.
Both Bridgeport swim teams will complete the 2012 portion of this season's schedule at home this Saturday, December 8 when the Purple Knights host Post University at 1:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium.
