Swim Teams Split At Pace
Men Top Setters, 122-49, And Women Fall In Tight Meet, 133-124
Pleasantville. N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams split dual meets at Pace University on Saturday afternoon, as the UB men topped the Setter, 122-49, and the Pace women defeated the Purple Knights in a hotly contested meet, 133-124.
Three Bridgeport swimmers were triple-event winners at Pace. On the women's side, sophomore Maria Trubitsyna (Moscow, Russia) won the 200-yard Freestyle (1:54.52, the 200-yard Butterfly (2:10.73) and the 500-yard Freestyle (5:12.51), plus teammate Ilka Oberle (Schwanau, Germany) took first places in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:11.38), the 200-yard IM (2:16.05) and the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:30.73). On the men's side, sophomore Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) captured the 100-yard Backstroke (51.73), the 50-yard Freestyle (21.77), and the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:09.31).
A pair of Purple Knight men were double winners at Pace as sophomore team captain Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) won the 200-yard Freestyle (1:46.53) and the 100-yard Freestyle (50.14). plus junior Ilkka Hanhineva (Pietarsaari, Finland) won the 100-yard Butterfly (50.12) and the 200-yard Butterfly (1:58.64).
The UB women are back in action on January 28th at C.W. Post, and Bridgeport men return to the pool at home on February 4th versus St. Peter's.
