Purple Knights Stay Strong On Day Two At 2011 TCNJ Swimming Invitational
Men Set Four Varsity Records On Saturday Night
Ewing, N.J.-Day two of the 2011 College of New Jersey Invitational was another good one for the University of Bridgeport swim teams. The UB men had an especially excellent evening on Saturday, as the Purple Knights took three first places and turned in four new varsity records. Swimmers for both Bridgeport teams have found the New Jersey pool to their liking, as every Purple Knight has turned in a season-best performance.
The Bridgeport men remained in second place after the second day of the three-day TCNJ Invitational with 469 points. Host TCNJ is the men's team leader with 932 points. The UB women slipped one spot in the team standings to fourth place after Saturday's action. The Purple Knights have amassed 331 points. TCNJ also leads on the women's side with 922 points.
On the men's side, event wins and varsity records were turned in by Ilkka Hanhineva (Jr., Pietarsaari, Finland) in the 100-yard Butterfly (49.01), Vladislav Paskas (Fr., Zrenjanin, Serbia) in the 200-yard Free (1:40.95) and the 800-yard Free Relay Team of Hanhineva, Paskas, Ruben Gimenez and Deon Taylor (6:52.38). Those winning times are also NCAA B cuts.
Freshman Igor Vulesevic (Zrenjanin, Serbia) set a UB varsity record in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:10.74.
Four more Bridgeport swimmers turned in NCAA B cut times on Saturday night, freshman Alja Tavcar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) turned a time of 1:54.47 in the women's 200-yard Free; senior Krzysztof Wilik (Krakow, Poland) in the men's 200-yard Free (1:41.58); sophomore Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) in the men's 200-yard Free (1:41.71 on the relay lead-off leg) and sophomore Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) also in the 200-yard Free (1:43.38).
