Swim Teams Start Off Strong At College of Wooster Invitational
Action Continues In Ohio Through Saturday
Wooster, Ohio-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams got off to an good start on Thursday as they both completed day one of the three-day College of Wooster Invitational in third place in the team standings.
The UB men amassed 334 points on day one in Ohio, and they trail first place Edinboro University (416 points) and second place Case Western Reserve University (352 points).
The Purple Knights women totaled 349.5 points on day one at Wooster, and they trail first place Gannon University (351.5 points) and second place Edinboro University (351 points).
On the men's side on Thursday, senior Piotr Safronczyk (Bialystok, Poland) took first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:54.14 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time), and sophomore Toni Valcic (Ribnica, Slovenia) won the 50-yard Free with a time of 20.78 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time). The Bridgeport men also won the 200-yard Free Relay (Alejandro Roberto, Nik Savic, Safronczyk and Valcic) in a time of 1:24.23.and the 400-yard Medley (Savic, Safronczyk, Julio Lopez and Valcic) in a time of 3:28.24.
The UB women also won two individual races on Thursday with freshman Sonia Arau (Barcelona, Spain) taking the top spot in the 200-yard IM in a time of 1:54.14 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time), and junior Maris Visse (Tallinn, Estonia) capturing the 500-yard Free in a time of 5:08.08 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time). Arau also turned in an NCAA "B" Qualifying Time in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time on 58.80 on a lead-off relay leg.
Action continues in the 2010 College of Wooster Invitational through Saturday, December 4th.
