BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Catapulted by a pair of late goals in the second half, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team picked up a 4-2 triumph over Bloomfield on Tuesday. The win improves the Purple Knights' record to 3-2-2 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.
Although just a two-goal margin of victory, it was a dominant effort from the home squad. Bridgeport boasted a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks while also outshooting Bloomfield, 36-9.
Bloomfield's goalie Matthew Brun recorded a remarkable 15 saves to keep the Bears within striking distance.
Brun couldn't quite stop the Lapo Romieri show on Tuesday though. The Italian set the tone with the first goal of the game in the 12th minute while also notching the game-winner after Bloomfield had tied the game up at 2-2.
In addition to scoring half of UB's goals, Romieri also finished with a pair of assists. He had his fingerprints on all four of Bridgeport's tallies.
Enzo Beatrix and Lucas Souza scored goals for the home squad as well. Beatrix found the back of the net in the 48th minute while Souza capped UB's scoring in the 86th minute.
Joao Miranda was also sensational for the Purple Knights. The Bridgeport native wreaked havoc on Bloomfield's defense all game long and finished with a trio of assists for his efforts.
Defensively, Bridgeport only allowed four shots on goal while Gianny Provincial earned his second career win in net.
