Springfield, Mass.-Newcomer Alex Tan (Sr., Vichy, France) scored a brace, including the game-winning goal with just 1:44 to play in the first half, to help the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to its first win of the 2023 season on Saturday, a 3-2 road triumph over American International College. UB is now 1-2-1 on the year, and AIC moves to 0-1-2.
All of Saturday's scoring came in the first 45 minutes of action, as the host Yellow Jackets grabbed a 1-0 just 12:10 into play before Tan's first goal of the day, off an assist from John Louis (Jr., Bridgeport, Conn.) knotted things at 1-1 at 26:41.
The Purple Knights took a 2-1 advantage with just over five minutes to go in the first half (39:27) when sophomore Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) put home his second goal of 2023 off an assist from goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi (Fr., Toulouse, France).
AIC came right back to tie the game at 2-2 just 51 seconds later to set up Tan's game-winner in the closing portion of the half.
Along with his assist, Franceschi was strong in the Bridgeport net making a total of five saves, including stopping a penalty kick in the first half.
Up next, UB closes out a two-match road trip at Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Granite State.
