Vadseth Scores Twice to Lead the Purple Knights to a 3-1 Win Over Dominican (N.Y.)
Purple Knights notch their second road win of 2019
September 30, 2019
Orangeburg, N.Y.- Senior midfielder Nikolai Vadseth (Langevaag, Norway) scored a pair of goals, one in each half, and Senior forward Yoel Salvador (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied his first goal of 2019 to lead the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory in non-conference action over the Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers on Monday afternoon.
With the win, Bridgeport improves their record to 4-4-0 overall, while Dominican (N.Y.) sees their record slip to 2-6-0 overall.
Vadseth got the Purple Knights on the board at the 17:19 mark as he was able to rush past a few defenders before ripping a shot past Chargers' goalie Tyler Doll. Bridgeport was not able to add to their lead before halftime but held an 8-3 shot advantage at the break. Despite taking 11 more shots during the second half, the visitors had to wait until the final 15 minutes to double their lead. At the 76:14 mark, Graduate Student Marlon Montanella (Cannes, France) delivered a cross towards Salvador, who finished his effort past the Chargers' reserve goalie Joshua Stephens for his first goal of the season.
Vadseth scored his second of the day only 3:17 after Salvador's goal, giving the Purple Knights some late insurance. With 4:13 left in the second half, Dominican (N.Y.) pulled a goal back as Antonio Zhu Sanchez scored a penalty kick. But it wasn't enough to stop Bridgeport from earning their second victory on the road in the 2019 season.
The Purple Knights outshot the hosts 19-8 on the afternoon and Freshman goalie Felipe Dias (Bridgeport, Conn.) stopped one shot to earn his first win of the season.
The UB men's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference action on Saturday as they travel to Western New York to take on Daemen College. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.
