Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 28:24 of play and never looked back on its way to an 8-1 non-conference win over the visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers on a rainy Tuesday night on Knights Field. With the win, the Purple Knights, who have won four out of their last five matches and two contests in a row, are now 5-2-0 overall. Dominican slips to 2-5-0 on the season. The five wins for Bridgeport also surpass last year's victory total of four just about one month into the 2018 campaign.
Junior Nikolai Vadseth (Langevaag, Norway) finished the evening with a hat trick for Bridgeport to give him five goals in the last two matches.
UB freshman Oscar Facey (Trangsund, Sweden) had two goals and one assist for five points on the night for the winners, and junior Leandro Avila (Panama City, Panama) had a goal and two assists on Tuesday to up his team-leading season point total to 13.
Freshman Tom Godden (Leeds, England) and classmate Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.), each netted their first career collegiate goals against Dominican.
Kamrock Tovar (Stratford, Conn.) had a pair of assists on the night, and senior Goncalo Mendes (Vila do Conde, Portugal) and freshman Luis Cari (Trumbull, Conn.), also had helpers for Bridgeport.
So far in 2018, the Purple Knights have scored a total of 21 goals in their seven matches.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m.
