Flushing, N.Y.- The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team played a high-scoring 4-4 double overtime East Coast Conference road draw versus the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday afternoon in New York City. With the tie, the Purple Knights are now 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the ECC. QC is now 3-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
UB freshman Jovante Etienne (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) get the Purple Knights on the board quickly at Queens when he headed home a pass from sophomore Yoel Salvador (Bridgeport, Conn.) just 2:43 into play.
The host team would tie the contest at 1-1 just over two minutes later, and Queens would take a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 37:03 mark.
Bridgeport would tie the game at 2-2 heading into halftime when sophomore Erlend Skagestad (Mjoendalen, Norway) put home a penalty kick 4:40 before the interval.
The visitors would then take a 4-2 lead 8:10 into the second half on goals by senior Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa) and the second of the day by Etienne, who leads Bridgeport with a total of four goals so far in 2017.
The host Knights would then storm back to tie the match at 4-4 with scores at the 62:56 and 68:21 marks. QC's final goal came on a penalty kick.
Junior goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) made seven saves in net for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will head to St. Thomas Aquinas College for an ECC contest next Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
