Bridgeport, Conn.-The visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers tallied the only goal of the match just 1:28 into play when Fernando Guiterrez scored off an assist from James Gragson, as the Chargers topped the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 1-0, in match two of the 2016 UB Men's Soccer Classic. DC is now 1-2 on the season, and Bridgeport remains winless at 0-3.
In the opening match of the classic, LIU Post blasted Merrimack, 5-0.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the host Purple Knights turned up the pressure on the visitors outshooting Dominican, 12-6, over the final 45 minutes, but UB could not find the back of the net, as Chargers' goalkeeper Steven Hegner made six saves on the night and he also was helped when his teammates cleared a shot by Bridgeport's Luka Ivanovic (Sr., Belgrade, Serbia) close to the goal line.
In the match, Bridgeport outshot Dominican, 17-15.
Purple Knights' goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) made four saves on the night.
UB's Nikolai Vadseth (Langevaag, Norway) his team with five shots, and Stefan Gualano had six shots for the winners.
Both teams are back in action in the 2016 UB Men's Soccer Classic this Saturday, as Dominican will take on LIU Post at 4:00 p.m., and Bridgeport will face Merrimack at 7:00 p.m.
