Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team dominated the first half but could not find the back of the net, and an early second half goal by the visiting Nyack College Warriors was the only tally of the evening, as the Purple Knights fell to the visitors, 1-0, in the 2016 season opener for both teams on Thursday night in Bridgeport.
UB outshot Nyack, 11-4 in the first 45 minutes of action, but Warriors' goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota made five saves to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
The visitors netted the only goal of the match just 3:24 into the second half when Andrew Kupp headed in a long throw from teammate Finn Reese.
In the second half, Nyack had the better of the play outshooting Bridgeport, 10-7. On the night, the Purple Knights outshot the Warriors, 18-14, but Lasota made a total of seven saves to earn the shutout. UB goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Soph., Ribadesella, Spain) made five saves in his season debut.
On offense for the Purple Knights, seniors Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa), each had four shots on the night.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will open its 2016 road schedule on Saturday afternoon (September 3rd) with a with a 4:00 p.m. match at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire,
