Men's Soccer Back In The Win Column With 2-1 Road Victory At UDC
Purple Knights Have Now Won Three Of Their Last Four Matches
Arlington, Va.-Sophomore Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored the game-winning goal, his second goal of 2014, with just 6:30 to play in the second half, as the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team rebounded from a heart-breaking 2-1 home loss to Queens (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, with a strong 2-1 East Coast Conference road win over the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on a windy Saturday afternoon just outside of our Nation's Capital. With the victory, UB is now 4-4-0 overall and 3-2 in the ECC. UDC is now 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Ivanovic scored Saturday's game-winner off a beautiful assist from fresman Simon Haakansson (Stockholm, Sweden).
Bridgeport opened the scoring in the match on Saturday when junior Kieran Simms (London, England) headed home his first goal in a UB uniform in the 30th minute off pass from Jordan Gerald (Jr., West Orange, N.J.) and Jay Abreu (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil).
UDC would tie things up at 1-1 at the 66:05 mark to set the stage for Ivanovic's game-winning goal.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) had another outstanding game in the Purple Knights' net making seven saves. The Firebirds outshot Bridgeport on the day, 21-13.
The UB men's soccer team will continue its six-match road swing with a trip to Long Island next Saturday, October 11 to face the LIU Post Pioneers. Match time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
