Purple Knights Score A Season-Best 14 Goals But Fall To D'Youville In Non-Conference Men's Lacrosse Action
UB Returns To Play On Saturday At St. Michael's In Vermont
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team scored a season-high 14 goals at Knights Field on Thursday afternoon, but the Purple Knights fell to the visiting D'Youville University Saints, 18-14, in non-conference action. UB is now 1-4 overall; while D'Youville moves to 3-5.
Freshman James Napoli (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport goal-scoring parade on Thursday netting a total of five. James also had one assist to finish with six points on the afternoon.
Senior Nick Whelan Rockville, Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) each had a hat trick on Thursday. Hewlette added three assists for a six-point day.
Dewey Schoenfelder (Jr., Mt. Airy, Md.), Darien Fray (Fr., Uniondale, N.Y.) and Noah Beard (So., Mint Hill, N.C.) rounded out the UB goal scorers, as the each hit the back of the net once.
Schoenfelder also had three assists for the Purple Knights.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Peter Nazario (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a total of 14 saves against the Saints.
D'Youville's Tristan Engelhart had quite the day on offense netting seven goals with six assists for the winners.
Up next, the UB men's lacrosse team opens a five-game road swing travelling to Vermont on Saturday to take on the other Purple Knights of St. Michael's College at 1:00 p.m.
