Men's Basketball Soars Past Dominican, 93-76
Purple Knights score 56 points in the second half, including a 20-3 run.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Fueled by a 20-3 run late in the second half, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team rattled off a 93-76 win over Dominican on Wednesday night.
Up 65-62 with 7:32 remaining in regulation, the Purple Knights enjoyed one of their best stretches of the season. They immediately put in five straight points to go up eight—and following two free throws from Dominican—capped off the run with a 12-0 onslaught in just 1:54 of game time.
Bridgeport ultimately took its largest lead of the game at 85-65 with 3:10 on the clock.
Junior guard Nick Traill recorded a pair of three-balls, a layup and two steals during UB's game-clinching run. He finished the contest with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Sam DeSouza joined in with a sensational stat line of his own. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native picked up his third double-double of the season courtesy of a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior Jayden Iturmendi followed suit with an 18-point, six-rebound effort of his own, while also chipping in three assists.
Two more members of UB's starting five finished in double figures in the form of Tim Dawson and Caleb Jacobs. Dawson added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals while Jacobs finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Dawson has now tallied three or more steals in seven different contests this season. He is currently ranked third in the CACC in takeaways per game (2.1).
Malikai Delgado and D'Andre Collins matched Traill on the offensive end as all three pitched in nine points.
Collectively, it was a dominant effort on the glass. The Purple Knights outrebounded Dominican, 54-33, including a total of 17 offensive boards.
Offensively, Bridgeport's 93 points is their highest total since Dec. 30 when they defeated Caldwell by a score of 96-92. The Purple Knights finished 35-of-73 (47.9%) from the field and 18-for-26 (69.2%) from the free-throw line.
