Purple Knights Push Past Pace In Comeback Victory
Bridgeport overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the Setters at home.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team came from behind to defeat the Pace University Setters 62-61 Wednesday evening. Down by eight at halftime, Bridgeport doubled their efficiency from three-point territory and fought bask to get within striking distance. Senior Joshua Denis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew a foul after driving the hole with 3.5 seconds left and made both free throws to give UB a one-point lead. Pace could not convert their chance and the Purple Knights would take the game by the slimmest of margins. The non-conference win improves UB's overall record to 5-4.
Bridgeport opened the game shooting just 18.2% from beyond the arc and 24.2% from the floor. After the halftime break, the Purple Knights doubled their three-point shooting percentage to 37.5%, scoring 18 points from the distance and improved within the arc to 46.2%.
The offense was led by Joshua Denis with his 19 points including the aforementioned winning free throw. He added three assists and one rebound to his line.
Sam DeSouza (Grad., Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a big task in the paint for UB and answered the call with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Senior D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) made important baskets down the stretch for the Purple Knights as he chipped in nine points, five rebounds, one assist and one block.
Tim Dawson (Sr., New Haven, Conn.) had a stellar defensive performance tonight with a game-high five steal to add to his six points, three assists and two rebounds.
Up next, UB plays their fourth of five straight games against NE-10 opponents when they travel to Garden City, N.Y. on Saturday, December 16th at 3:30 p.m. to take on the Adelphi University Panthers.
