Bridgeport Men Back In The Win Column With 76-69 Road Victory Over Queens (NY) College
Purple Knights Are Now An Even 5-5 Overall So Far This Season
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team evened its overall season record at 5-5 and snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon in New York City with a 76-69 non-conference road win over former East Coast Conference foe, the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights (4-6).
The Purple Knights raced out to an 11-point, 38-27, halftime advantage and led by as many as 19 points, 48-29, just under three minutes into the second of play, but QC managed to cut the deficit to only four points, 68-64, with 2:52 to play before UB put the game away with a 5-0 run over the next 1:46 of action.
Junior Joshua Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense with 18 points on the day.
He was joined in double figures by senior Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) who each netted 14 points, and they both grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the win. Collins has now reached double-digit scoring six times so far this season, and Sumareh tied his season his with those 14 points on Sunday.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will play its final home game before the Holiday Break on Friday evening in Hubbell Gym when the highly-ranked Bentley University Falcons come to town for a 7:0 p.m. non-conference tilt.
