Men's Hoops Sees Record Winning Streak Snapped At Molloy
Purple Knights Defeated By The Lions, 95-88
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team saw its 17-game winning streak end, and the Purple Knights suffered their first East Coast Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the host Molloy College Lions topped UB, 95-88. Bridgeport is now 21-3 overall on the year and 13-1 in conference play. Molloy moves to 11-14 overall, and the Lions are an even 7-7 in the ECC.
Trailing by 14 points at the half, 95-88, the Purple Knights pulled to within two points at 89-87 with 49 seconds to play after Hashem Abbas (Jr., Nablus, Palestine) hit a three-point shot, but Lions held the visitors without a point for the rest of the game to close out the win.
Bridgeport shot only 40.3 percent from the floor on the day (31-of-77), including hitting just 8-of-26 three-point shots. Fouls also plagued the Purple Knights, as two players fouled out, and another pair finished the game with four fouls.
Senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights on the day with a double-double of a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds.
UB junior Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain) fell just shy of his own double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Abbas, senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) and junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) each finished with 10 points on the afternoon for Bridgeport.
Josh Dennis led five Lions in double figures with a career-high 24 points.
Up next, the UB men will look to get back in the win column when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in an East Coast Conference first-place showdown in Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night. Game time between the top two teams in the ECC standings and the NCAA Regional rankings is set for 7:00 p.m.
