UB Men Run Winning Streak To 14 With An 83-74 Home Victory Over Daemen College
Purple Knights Now 10-0 In The ECC And 18-2 Overall So Far This Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team continues to roll along as the Purple Knights notched win number 14 in a row, and the Purple Knights upped their season record to 18-2 and remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play at 10-0 with an 83-74 home victory over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats. Daemen is now 18-6 overall and 7-3 in the ECC.
The visitors started off strong on Friday scoring the first eight points of the evening. Bridgeport came back to grab 38-30 advantage with 4:07 to play in the first half, but the Wildcats rallied to outscore the Purple Knights, 13-5, over the remainder of the first to take a 43-42 halftime lead.
In the second half, Daemen led 47-44 two minutes into the second stanza, but host team would score the next 10 points to take a 54-47 lead which UB would never relinquish.
Turnovers played a huge part in the game, as Bridgeport forced the Wildcats into a season-high 26 turnovers which they converted into 27 points. UB also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and netted a total of 12 second chance points.
Junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led Bridgeport with 20 points, and he also had seven rebounds.
Senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) had and outstanding all-around game for the winners with a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, plus he dished off seven assists and had seven steals.
Classmate D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) also had 16 points for the Purple Knights, and Trumbo finished the night with three assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Junior Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain) rounded out the quartet of UB played in double-digit scoring with 11 points.
Daemen's Jeff Redband led all scorers on the night with 24 points, as he connected on 7-of-10 three-point shots.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will look to run its winning streak to 15 in a row on Sunday afternoon when the Purple Knights host Roberts Wesleyan College at 3:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
