Purple Knights' Men's Basketball Cruises To Win Number 13 In A Row At Queens, 92-65
Hashem Abbas Leads UB With A Double-Double Of 22 Points And 10 Rebounds
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team led from pillar to post, as the Purple Knights never trailed on the afternoon on their way to a convincing 92-65 East Coast Conference road victory over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday afternoon in New York City. UB has now won 13 games in a row, as the team moves to 17-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 9-0. QC slips to 5-14 overall and 3-6 in the ECC.
Junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led Bridgeport in scoring with a total of 22 points, and he finished the day with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds. 20 of Abbas' points came in the first half to help the Purple Knights open up a 46-21 lead at the intermission.
Also reaching double-digit scoring for the winners on Saturday were seniors Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 17 points and D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) with 14 points. Camara chipped in seven boards, and Trumbo dished off seven assists for the Purple Knights.
Elijah Bovell led Queens with 17 points.
Bridgeport forced the hosts into a total of 19 turnovers in Saturday's win.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team returns home for a pair of games beginning on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host Daemen College in Hubbell Gym in a key East Coast Conference contest.
