Floyd Preito Nets UB Record 55 Points In Purple Knights' 144-76 Senior Night Win Over LIU Post
144 Points Also Sets Single Game Team Scoring Record
Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a record-setting Senior Night for the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team in their 2018-19 regular season home finale, as UB's Floyd Preito (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) set the school's single-game individual scoring record netting 55 points, as he hit 20-of-31 field goals including connecting on a single-game team record 15 three-point shots in the Purple Knights' 144-78 home East Coast Conference win over LIU Post. The 144 points are also a single-game Bridgeport team scoring record surpassing the 135 scored at LIU Post earlier this season. Preito's 55 points top the previous Bridgeport record of 47 scored by Lee Hollerbach in the 1973-74 season against Merrimack.
Wednesday's win lifts Bridgeport's overall record to 14-11, and the team is now 9-6 in conference play. The Pioneers remain winless on the season at 0-23 overall and 0-16 in the ECC.
Including Preito, seven Purple Knights reached double figures, as sophomore Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) and junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.), each had 14 points, seniors Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) and Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) each contributed 11 points plus junior John Middleton (Atlantic City, N.J.) and sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) each chipped in 10 points. Abbas finished with a double-double, as he grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds.
Junior Jose Pabon-Sanchez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10 of his team's 39 assists for the winners.
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led LIU Post with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will close out the regular season fighting for a home conference tournament game, as they embark on a three-game road trip beginning at NYIT on Saturday. Game time on Long Island is slated for 3:30 p.m.
