Six Players Reach Double Figures As Men's Basketball Bests Mercy, 107-81
Team Tops 100-Points Mark For The Fifth Time In 2018-19
Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team eclipsed the 100-pont mark for the fifth time this season, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 107-81 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting mercy College Mavericks on Wednesday evening in Hubbell Gym. With the win, UB is now 7-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Mercy slips to 4-9 overall, and the Mavs are also 2-3 in the ECC.
Six UB players reached double figures on the night led by junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) and freshman Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.) who each scored 13 points. Camara also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds on the night.
Senior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine), each notched 11 points for the winners, and senior Floyd Preito (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a season-high 10 points plus junior John Middleton (Atlantic City, N.J.) also chipped in 10 points.
Sophomore Travis Morgan-Robinson (Elmont, N.Y.) directed the Purple Knights' offense on Wednesday to the tune of seven assists, as UB had 28 helpers on 39 made basketball.
The Bridgeport reserves played a key role in Wednesday's win, as the UB bench scored a total of 64 points on the night.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will continue its four-game homestand and look to run its winning streak to three games, when the Purple Knights host Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference clash on Friday, January 18. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
