Late Rally By Host Queens (N.Y.) College Stuns Men's Basketball, 71-70
Host Knights Close Game On A 17-2 Run To Defeat The Purple Knights
Flushing, N.Y.-Two free throws by Queens (N.Y.) College's Dwanye Henry Jr. with 3.4 seconds to play in regulation lifted the host Knights to a stunning 71-70 East Coast Conference win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon in New York City. QC trailed Bridgeport by 14 points, 68-54, with 5:51 to play, before closing the game on a huge 17-2 run to grab the win. With the loss, UB is now 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the ECC. Queens is now 2-10 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
The Purple Knights, who were outscored 42-27 in the second half, closed the first half on a 23-5 run of their own to turn a 24-20 deficit into a 43-29 lead at halftime.
Junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Camara was joined in double figures by seniors Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) with 16 points and Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) with 11 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will close out its pre-Holiday looking to snap a three-game losing at home on Tuesday afternoon when they host undefeated St. Anselm College in a non-conference contest. Game time in Hubbell Gym is slated for 4:00 p.m.
