Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team held a seven-point, 92-84, lead with 4:26 to play in the second half, but the visiting Molloy College Lions stormed back to finished the game on a 21-5 run to post a 105-97 East Coast Conference victory on Wednesday night in UB's Hubbell Gym. With loss, the Purple Knights are now 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. Molloy moves to 3-0 in conference play with the victory, and the Lions are 3-0 in conference action so far this season.
Junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led four Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring with 14 points, and he fell just shy of a double-double grabbing a team-best nine rebounds.
Sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) finished with 13 points and eight boards for the Purple Knights, and classmate Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia), with 12 points, and senior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.), with 11 points, rounded out the UB quartet in double figures.
Molloy's Curtis Jenkins, who went a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor, led all scorers on the night with 30 points.
Free throws were a big factor in the win for Molloy, as the Lions went 37-of-55 from the line, as opposed to Bridgeport hitting 14-of-21 shots from the charity stripe.
Up next, the UB men will look to snap a two-game losing skid when they travel to New York City on Saturday afternoon to face East Coast Conference opponent, Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
