UB Men's Hoops Defeats Post, 119-101, To Open 2018-19 At 2-0 Overall
Five Purple Knights Again Reach Double-Digit Scoring
Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team raced out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back on its way to a 119-101 win over the visiting Post University Eagles in the final game of the 2018 UB Men's Basketball Conference Crossover Classic in Hubbell Gym on Sunday night. The Purple Knights, who have eclipsed the 100-point in both of their games so far this season, are now 2-0. Post moves to 1-1.
For the second straight contest, five Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring. On Sunday, senior Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) led UB with 24 points, and he also had six rebounds plus three assists and three steals.
Sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) also topped 20 points with 22.
Senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) had 15 points with a team-high six assists plus four steals on Sunday, and senior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) rounded out the UB quintet in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Camara had a fine all-around game leading the Purple Knights with seven rebounds, and he also had five assist plus two blocked shots and two steals.
UB forced Post into 29 turnovers on Sunday which the Purple Knights converted into 38 points.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team opens a three-game road trip at Wilmington (Del.) University on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
