UB Men Clinch Top Spot In 2018 ECC Championship Tournament With Big Victory Over Mercy, 102-73
Team Also Sets New School Record For Consecutive Wins In A Single Season With 13
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team clinched the top seed in this season's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament and also set a single season school record for consecutive wins with its thirteenth straight victory, as the Purple Knights never trailed in a 102-73 home conference win over the Mercy College Mavericks. UB is now 22-4 overall and 15-1 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy slips to 10-17 overall and 5-11 in the ECC. UB never trailed in the game on Saturday, as the team eclipised the 100-point mark for the seventh time this year.
The last time Bridgeport won as many as 12 games in a row was during the 2012-13 season.
Seniors Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Carlos DeJesus (Bronx. N.Y.) led five Purple Knights in double figures, as they each netted 13 points.
Freshman Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) was next on the UB scoring list with 11 points, and senior Marc Campbell (Elmont, N.Y.) and junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.), each had 10 points to round out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers.
Sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) finished just shy of a double-double for the Purple Knights with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Bridgeport did damage against Mercy from long distance knocking down 15 three-pointers on the day.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will close out its 2017-18 regular home schedule on Wednesday night with a Senior Night contest versus Molloy College looking to run its winning streak to 14 games. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
