Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team's potent offense was on display on Wednesday evening, as UB picked up its eleventh win in row and moved to 20-4 overall on the season with a 119-97 East Coast Conference victory over the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. This is the sixth time this season Bridgeport has scored at least 100 points in a game.
Tonight's win also marks the tenth time during head coach Mike Ruane's 18-year tenure on the Purple Knights' bench that his team has posted at least 20 wins in a single season. The last time UB posted 20-wins in a year was 2014-15 when Bridgeport went 24-7. With the triumph, the Purple Knights are now 13-1 in conference play. With the loss, UDC slips to 5-18 on the season and 3-11 in ECC action.
Every Purple Knight that saw action on Wednesday night contributed to the scoring column for the winners led by senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y,) with 19 points.
Cobb was joined in double-digit scoring by five teammates, as sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) put in 13 points, senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Yasir Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) both contributed 11 points, plus junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) and classmate Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) both had ten points apiece.
Joseph had a fine all-around game for UB adding seven rebounds and seven steals.
Trumbo dished out five assists while grabbing four rebounds.
Freshman Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) added another quality performance putting up eight points, four assists and seven rebounds off the Bridgeport bench.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon for a key ECC contest. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
