52-Point Second Half Lifts UB Men's Basketball To An 86-81 Road Win Over NYIT
Winners Of 10 In A Row, Purple Knights Are Now 19-4 Overall And 12-1 In Conference Play
Old Westbury, N.Y.-Trailing 38-34 at halftime, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team found its offense during the final 20 minutes of play to score 52 points, as the Purple Knights picked up their tenth win in a row with an 86-81 East Coast Conference road victory over the NYIT Bears on Saturday afternoon on Long Island. UB is now 19-4 overall and 12-1 in conference play. NYIT slips to 3-23 overall, and the Bears are 1-11 in the ECC.
Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 24 points.
Joseph was joined in double-digit scoring by classmate Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) and freshman Yasir Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.), who each netted 13 points.
Both Cobb and Lawrence scored all their points in the second half of action, and Sharif finished with a double-double, as he grabbed a game-leading 11 rebounds and also chipped in four assists.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday night at home when the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds come to Hubbell gym. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
