Men's Hoops Picks Up Sixth Straight Victory With An 81-69 Win Over Mercy
Senior Sam Joseph Notches A Double-Double With 16 Points And 10 Rebounds
Riverdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team returned to the court for the first time in a week, and the Purple Knight picked up their sixth win a row with an 81-69 road victory over the Mercy College Mavericks in a game played at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The win ups UB's season record to 15-4, and Bridgeport is now 8-1 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy slips to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in the ECC.
Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights posting a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Joseph also chipped in two assists and two steals on the day.
Junior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) joined Joseph in double-figure scoring with 15 points, as she connected on 6-of-9 field goal attempts.
UB junior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in nine point, and freshman Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) added eight points for the winners.
Junior point guard D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) finished the game with eight assists, eight rebounds, four points and one steal for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team continues its three-game road swing with a key visit to Western New York next weekend for a pair of East Coast Conference contests that begins in Rochester at Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night, January 26. Tip time is slated for 8:00 p.m.
