Five Players Reach Double Figures For The Winner Led by Bakary Camara With 16 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team ran its winning streak to five games and raised it overall record to 14-4 and its East Coast Conference mark to 7-1 on Saturday afternoon with a 99-81 home win over the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights (5-8 overall, 3-3 ECC).
Queens hit the opening basket of the game for their only lead of the day at 3-0 before the hosts pulled out to a 43-37 halftime advantage and put the game away by outscoring the visitors, 56-44, in the second half.
Bridgeport shot the ball well from the floor on Saturday connecting on 55.2 percent of its field goals (37-of-67), and UB also went 7-of-14 from be the three-point line (50.0%).
Sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led five Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring with 16 points. He was joined in double figures by junior Eric Rankin (Bronx. N.Y.) with 13 points and freshman Hashem Abbas (Nahlus, Palestine) with 12 points off the Purple Knights' bench, and starters senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) with 11 points and junior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 10.
Abbas led Bridgeport on the glass with eight rebounds.
Junior point guard D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) tied a career-high with 11 assists for the winners.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will open a three-game road trip next Saturday afternoon versus Mercy College in a game that will be played at the College of Mount St. Vincent. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on January 20.
