Sam Joseph Selected ECC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week
Senior Shined In Two Bridgeport Victories Last Week
West Babylon, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior guard Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding play in game that took place from January 2 through January 6, 2017.
Joseph was huge in his return to the court after missing two games with an injury, as he helped the Purple Knights to wins over UDC and St. Thomas Aquinas averaging 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 steals per game. In a win at the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday night, Sam led all scorers with 24 points in 23 minutes played, plus he grabbed seven rebounds. In a huge home win over STAC, Joseph helped spearhead a Bridgeport defense that forced 30 Spartan turnovers and allowed only 57 points for the visitors, making a single-game career-high and ECC season-high eight steals. Versus St. Thomas Aquinas, Sam netted 12 points and added three rebounds and three assists.
So far this season, he leads the Purple Knights in scoring average at 14.5 points per game.
This week, Joseph and his UB teammates will travel to Molloy College on Wednesday and host Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday.
