Defense Leads UB Men To Big ECC Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Purple Knights Defeat Spartans, 73-57, In Battle Of Conference Heavyweights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team extended its win streak to three games on Saturday a big 73-57 East Coast Conference victory over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans. UB is now 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the ECC. STAC is now 13-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
Trailing 45-44 with just under 10:00 to play, the Purple Knights closed the game out on a 29-12 run to pick up the victory.
Freshman Hashem Abbas (Nahlus, Palestine) led the Purple Knights in scoring, netting 15 points off the bench in 20 minutes played.
Abbas was joined in double-digit scoring by junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.), who finished the game just shy of a triple-double with 14 points, eight assists and nine rebounds. Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also chipped in 12 points for the Purple Knights. Joseph added three assists, three rebounds, a whopping eight steals and two blocks. Senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) contributed 11 points, four rebounds and two steals for the winners.
The Purple Knights played a very strong game defensively, turning the Spartans over 30 times which translated into 33 Bridgeport points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team travels to Molloy College on Wednesday night for another conference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
